Chicken Shawarma

Easy chicken shawarma

Ingredients

  • 1kg chicken breast or thighs or skinless thighs (breasts are more lean but less flavourful)
  • 1/3 (80ml) cup olive oil
  • 1 tsp ginger paste or 3/4 tsp ginger powder
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cardamom
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric

Method

  1. Combine everything together and marinade for at least 4 hours but ideally 24 hours
  2. Preheat oven to 200°C (not on the same day you marinade 😀)
  3. Using a bread pan, tightly pile the chicken into the form
  4. Bake for 45 minutes
  5. Remove pan from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes
  6. Take the chicken from the pan, place onto a chopping board (it'll be messy)
  7. Start slicing top to bottom
  8. Serve with pita, naan and veggies
  9. Enjoy!
